News: Disneyland announces major updates for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Star Wars: The Edge of the Galaxy open to Disneyland in 2019 and immersed fans in a new land in a way never before seen at Happiest Place on Earth. Traveling characters and territory-specific verbiage (you might be greeted with “Bright Suns” instead of “Hello”) painted a picture of Batuu, an isolated outpost where the story of Galaxy’s Edge took place.

Another important story detail in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was the timeline. It was explicit that guests visiting Galaxy’s Edge are ediscover the Star Wars universe somewhere between Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi And Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

Seven years after its opening (I can’t I think it’s been so long), Galaxy’s Edge is about to receive its biggest update that essentially erases this timeline, making the land more timeless – literally.

Disney began hinting that the timeline assigned to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge might become a thing of the past in 2023 when Din Djarin, aka The Mandalorian, was introduced as a walking character in the land (an encounter with Ahsoka Tano debuted later that same year). For those who are less familiar with the Star Wars universe, the Disney+ series The Mandalorian takes place approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI – The Empire Strikes Back and approximately 25 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

TL;DR: The Mandalorian doesn’t fit into the original Galaxy’s Edge timeline.

With Grogu in tow, the Mandalorian’s presence in Galaxy’s Edge has fans buzzing that Disney might be considering reversing its stance on the Galaxy’s Edge timeline, and we now know for sure that the way we experience this immersive land is about to change in a major way. These changes will be deployed on April 29, 2026.

Original characters from the Star Wars trilogy are coming to Galaxy’s Edge

One of the most striking examples of Disney’s disappearance of the original Galaxy’s Edge timeline comes in the form of adding characters to the country’s lineup. Of the April 29, 2026you will be able to spot Darth Vader, Leia Organa, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker in Galaxy’s Edge (the Galactic Civil War and the New Republic). With the arrival of Darth Vader, Kylo Ren will be dropping by the Disney Visa character meet and greet experience at Tomorrowland.

If you’re looking for these characters, Disney has given us some pointers on where you can find them. Luke Skywalker will roam the outpost in search of Force knowledge and artifacts related to the construction of lightsabers, kyber crystals and more. Leia Organa can be seen near the Millennium Falcon, where she will recruit travelers and locals to help keep Luke safe. Han Solo he will also linger around his precious ship, tempted by the local canteen.

According to Disney, Rey and the Resistance will continue their fight against the First Order in the Resistance Camp. This suggests that the Galaxy’s Edge resistance camp area will remain in the new trilogy timeline (Age of Resistance and the First Order) between Episodes VIII and IX, with the Outer Rim Outpost area where you can spot characters from the OG trilogy (Galactic Civil War and New Republic).

The forested area on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost will also represent the Age of Resistance timeline, because that’s where you’ll find Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

John Williams’ Star Wars music will be featured in Galaxy’s Edge

Sound and music will play another important role in the reinvention of Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park. As of April 29, the country will be filled with John Williams’ iconic and radical music from the first six Star Wars films. Recognizable designs from the main Star Wars theme will greet guests as they enter Batuu. Other selections will include “Han Solo and the Princess”, “The Desert and the Robot Auction”, “The Emperor” and more.

New story details for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

For example, the The First Order Cargo store will be renamed Black Spire Surplus, offering “artifacts from throughout the history of the galaxy.”

More at Droid Depotan earlier generation of the Mubo family will now prototype the BB style of droid, placing the shop in an earlier timeline. And Savi’s workshop may include appearances by Luke Skywalker as he searches for “information about lightsabers and the Force.” The shopping experiences at Savi’s and Droid Depot will remain the same.
