Timeline of changes coming to Disney World, Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line [2026 and beyond]

Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line will experience big changes in the years to come! At the D23 Disney Fan Event 2024, Josh D’Amaro, President of Disney Experiences, revealed new rides, lands and cruise ships which are currently in the works and expected to debut within the next few years.

But when exactly will these new additions be available to guests? We have opening dates and seasons set in stone for the immediate future.but when you look beyond the next 12 months, things start to get a little murky. Use the following timelines to help you plan your next vacation to Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney Cruise Line.

Each station’s schedule is divided by year or season, depending on the accuracy of known details, with confirmed projects that we know will take place during those times as well as “TBD” projects that we know are happening but do not yet have a confirmed schedule as of this writing. I’ll try an educated guess for these indefinite deadlines, but of course These are assumptions and not actual deadlines!

Walt Disney World

February 2026

• Frozen forever reopens at EPCOT with enhanced audio-animatronic figures

Spring 2026

• Big Thunder Mountain Railway reopens at Magic Kingdom with improved effects and a new storyline.
• Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopens at Magic Kingdom with new vehicles, blasters, targets, scoring system and show stage.

Summer 2026

• Din Djarin, aka THE Mandalorian and Grogu are added with a new special mission on Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The route updates also include new responsibilities for the engineer position.

• Soaring across America debuts at EPCOT in time for Memorial Day Weekend to celebrate America 250.
• Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster with the Muppets reopening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (date to be determined)

• Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! debuts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (date TBD)
• The magic of Disney animation opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (date TBD)

2027

• Date to be determined: Opening of the lands of tropical America at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
  • Once completed, the land will include three new attractions: A Indiana Jones Walk (taking the place of DINOSAUR), aCharm-themed walk, and a carousel. The land will also feature new restaurants, shops and more.
  • A phased closure of DinoLand USA began in January 2025. DINOSAUR and the rest of DinoLand USA will permanently close on February 1, 2026.

No timetable announced at the end of 2025:

TBD: Cinderella Castle transition to a new color palette. It was announced in 2025 that Cinderella Castle would adopt a new color scheme, reminiscent of its original design. This could happen sometime in 2026, but no specific date or timeline has been shared as of this writing.

TBD: Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic is coming to Carousel of Progress. It was also announced in 2025 that major changes were in store for Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom, including an updated final scene and the addition of a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic to the show’s opening. This could involve a lengthy downtime for the attraction, so I’m guessing it could happen sometime in 2027, perhaps during Magic Kingdom’s 55th anniversary season (the park will celebrate its 55th anniversary on October 1, 2026).

To be determined: Monstropolis opening schedule, Monsters Inc. land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Construction began in June 2025 with the closure of Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D. I wouldn’t expect Monstropolis’ completion to happen until at least 2028 or 2029.

TBD: Piston Peak National Park opening schedule Cars-reimagined Frontierland themed section. Construction began in 2025, so, like Monsters Inc. at Hollywood Studios, I would expect completion to be closer to 2028 or 2029.

TBD: Opening timeline of Land of Villains arriving in Magic Kingdom. I would guess that this land is the furthest from completion among the major projects announced in December 2025. This could mean that it may not be completed until at least 2029, or even 2030 (probably sometime after the project ends). Cars-the themed land is finished). I would expect to hear more details on this pitch at the next D23 Fan Event in 2026.

Disneyland Resort

Summer 2026

• Memorial Day Weekend 2026: Mandalorian and Grogu Mission are added to the Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland park. These are the same updates happening at Walt Disney World.
• July 2, 2026: Soarin’ Across America debuts in Disney California Adventure to celebrate America 250.

• August 9, 2026: The 70th anniversary celebration ends at Disneyland Resort.

Fall 2026

• Work begins on a brand new parking structure and transportation center. According to Disney, “Multi-year construction of this experience for newcomers is expected to begin in fall 2026.” No timetable for completion has been announced as of this writing.

• Work continues on the very first ride on the theme of the Pixar film Coco, coming to Disney California Adventure. Work behind the scenes on this new attraction began in fall 2025, but construction has not yet reached the stage areas as of this writing.

No timeline determined (probably 2027 and beyond)

• To be determined: opening date for Coco to go up at Disney California Adventure. Construction was originally scheduled to begin in 2026, but has increased slightly until behind-the-scenes work in fall 2025. I originally thought this ride would be completed sometime in 2028, but it’s possible we could see it open as early as 2027 thanks to the earlier construction schedule. I would still bet that we’re looking at 2028 and it would be a very pleasant surprise if it happened sooner than that.
• To be determined: construction schedule or opening schedule for Avatar experience coming to Disney California Adventure. In anticipation of this new experience, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue will close in early 2026. Disney said in summer 2025 that “this project is still in the early stages of development and additional details will be shared later, including construction timelines.” My hunch is that this project may not be completed before 2030.

Disney Cruise Line

March 2026

• Disney Adventure embarks on its maiden voyage on March 10, 2026. The Disney Adventure is the eighth ship to join the fleet, acquired by Disney during construction. Disney Adventure will be the first Disney Cruise Line ship to have a homeport in Asia (Singapore) and will initially offer day-at-sea only itineraries throughout Southeast Asia.

2027 and beyond

• Date(s) to be determined 2027-2031: Four additional ships join the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
  • Few details were given at the time of the announcement of these four ships, including whether they would be part of a new class of ships, what their names would be, etc. These four ships are expected to be delivered and make their maiden voyage in 2027, 2029, 2030 and 2031.
  • The first of four new ships will be a fourth Wish-class ship, joining Disney Wish, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny. The other three ships will belong to an entirely new class of ships for Disney Cruise Line.
• 2029 (date to be determined): An unnamed cruise ship sets sail on its maiden voyage to Japan.
  • This will be the first The Disney Cruise Line ship will be ported to Japan. This ship is in partnership with Oriental Land Company (OLC), the entity that owns and operates the Tokyo Disney Resort.

As I said earlier, if I had any speculation about when projects with no announced timeline would happen, they are exactly that: speculation. Until we hear official word from Disney themselves, all we can do is guess (and get excited) about the timeline of these changes.
