Even at 1,188 feet long and 18 decks high, the Royal Caribbean Wonder of the seas might just be the most accessible and child-friendly cruise ship in the world. Royal Caribbean Wonder of the seas has two private teen-only areas on board, and they’re cooler, more exclusive, and more authentically “teen” than anything I’ve ever witnessed on other cruise ships.

The interior space reserved for teenagers on Wonder of the seas is called Social100. There is a “secret entrance” that leads to a huge suite equipped with game consoles, movies and music. Just as important, there are plenty of comfortable places to relax alone or with new friends.

Outside, The Patio at Social100 is another private teen space accessed through a key card activated wooden gate that only teens can access. Oversized outdoor lawn games, a teen-only hot tub under the sun (or stars), and a bar that serves mocktails and ice cream floats are among the unique highlights.

Of course, being a teenager on the huge Wonder of the seas also means you have the freedom to roam the ship and try bodyboarding or surfing on the Flowrider surf simulator; climb the immense rock walls; a zip line crossing the promenade; hanging out on a pool deck; play a game of football, basketball or table tennis; go ice skating; dominate at laser tag; watch live musical productions like the Royal Caribbean superhero franchise Effectors; watch colorful ice skating shows; dare to dive into The Abyss outdoor dry slide; play mini golf day or night on the underwater-themed WonderDunes course; and spending time late at night watching outdoor movies and eating pizza.

And teens aged 16 and up can relax in the huge hot tub that juts out from the side of the ship on Solarium Deck 15. Do you see what I mean? It’s great to be a teenager on Royal Caribbean Wonder of the seas.

It’s pretty good to be a primary school age kid Wonder of the seas Also. Not only can kids play in Royal Caribbean’s rugged and exhilarating kids’ camp, Adventure Ocean, but they also have a huge, multi-level outdoor play area at the back of the ship called Wonder Playscape. Located in the Youth Zone area, on deck 14, the children’s camp complex is of suitable size, that is, it is also huge.

Inside, supervised age-appropriate activities are offered to four different age groups, from babies (from six months) to 11-year-olds. Each age group has its own colorful, comfortable, high-tech rooms and dedicated staff.

SPLASH ZONE: The Best Water Parks and Private Islands for Families on Cruise Ships

With the first taste of independence that all young children deserve, children will be taken to the Windjammer buffet for dinner together at sea. And the fun of Adventure Ocean can even extend late into the night. The cruise line’s “Late Night Party Zone” offers special events, dancing and other activities that run from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. for children ages 3 to 11. (There is a small hourly rate per child for these late night events.)

The sprawling Adventure Ocean complex aimed at elementary school-age children consists of a theater, science lab, escape room, arcade, game rooms and the Imagination Studio sponsored by Crayola and Fisher-Price. Events and activities are scheduled for children, such as appearances by DreamWorks characters, scavenger hunts, exclusive kid-friendly tours of the ship, sports competitions, parties, science experiments, workshops, movie nights, and Nintendo Wii video games (children are also allowed to bring their own games).

Both of my children fell in love with cruising because of the time they spent in camps at sea. With Wonder of the seasRoyal Caribbean has taken this trust formula and taken it to a whole new level. Your kids may never want to stop exploring, playing and, yes, learning at Adventure Ocean Camp.

The Adventure Ocean Play Area is a large round room filled with stuffed animals and games for small children and toddlers. There is also a playground with climbing equipment. The cool thing about this playground is that parents can play there with their kids, not just drop them off. But if you TO DO decide to enjoy some spa time alone or simply want to read a book in peace, you can rest assured that your little one will be engaged in imaginative play in the Adventure Ocean area’s whimsical rooms, climbable structures and craft workshop.

Royal Caribbean’s Adventure Ocean Babies is a child care center/nursery for Royal Babies (six months to 18 months) and Royal Tots (18 months to 36 months). Your little one must be fully potty trained and a small hourly rate per child applies.
