10 superb national park lodges which are just as emblematic as the parks they represent

Looking at the transparent granite face of the half-dome. Emergence of the aquatics of the sky of the old faithful. Drink in view of the Grand Canyon at sunrise. This is what family vacation memories are made, and the days spent exploring national parks are perfectly twinned with nights in a lodge of the National Park. Known for their large halls and dining rooms, their comfortable rooms and their architecture rooted in local materials, the best lodges of the American national parks are almost as emblematic as the parks themselves.

Emblematic stays in national parks with charming jewels just outside the limits of the parks where accommodation in the park is limited, you can expect breathtaking interiors, carefully designed rooms and unforgettable views that have the best of the wild beauty of America. Here are my choices for the lodges of the most impressive national parks in the United States, as well as jewels just outside the park where accommodation in the park is not available.

Why you can trust these choices: Read the Familyvacationist methodology to select and recommend holiday destinations and hotels.

Old Faithful Inn

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Built at the turn of the 20th century in Yellowstone National Park, the former Faithful Inn Log style is a brilliant example of “parkarchitecture”, the distinctive architectural style of the lodges of the National Park. Its massive fireplace is built from local rock, and many original lights and furniture are always exposed (consult the mission style furniture of the hall and chandeliers in the dining room). You can stay in one of the more than 300 rooms here between the beginning of May and mid-October, and make sure to visit the historic hotel to get the full experience.

The Ahwahnee hotel

Yosemite National Park, California

With its main position near the base of the Half-Dome of the main valley of Yosemite National Park, the Ahwahnee offers style and size inside and outside. Completed in 1927, this lodge of elegant rustic national park mixes log beam ceilings, works of Native American art and a granite facade and massive stone households which echo the surrounding landscape. Welcome to public spaces means that even non-in-invited can have an overview of what makes this majestic hotel special.

The El Tovar hotel has welcomed many famous customers since the opening of the National Park Lodge in 1905 (Photo: National Parks Service)

Perched on the edge of the magnificent southern edge of the Grand Canyon, the historic El Tovar hotel offers classic charm and emblematic views to customers of the National Park. Venerated as one of the most refined hotels in the West when it opened in 1905, this classic lodge of the Grand Canyon National Park welcomed famous guests, including Theodore Roosevelt and Albert Einstein. Each of the 78 rooms of the hotel offers unique arrangement and decoration, and family suites are also available.

Bonus advice: If you are looking to avoid the biggest crowds in the Grand Canyon, look north. The North Rim has its own little big Canyon National Park Lodge, rightly named the Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim. Generally, it is easier to mark a reservation here, and even if you have to work a little harder for these spectacular views, it remains a sensational experience of the Grand Canyon.

Crater Lake Lodge

Crater National Park Lake, Oregon

Although Crater Lake Lodge was rebuilt in the 1990s, many original touches remained. (Photo: Aramark)

Crater Lake Lodge in Crater Lake’s National Park opened in 1915, but the fragmentary approach to construction meant that, in the 1990s, the lodge was deemed dangerous and had to be rebuilt. Many original touches of the first Crater Lake lodge remain, however, and accommodation still resembles a lodge of the Quintesseniel National Park, with roaring halls, a rustic dining room and outdoor seats that constitute the maximum of these crater lake views.

Note: Crater Lake will get closer to the public from 2026 to 2029 while his Cleetwood Clove Trail (the only path to the lake) will undergo repairs and renovations.

Although it is flanked by a tropical forest of the dense Olympic National Park, Lake Quina Lodge always feels warm and welcoming thanks to its small but casual architecture, a location by Lake Homey and a front lawn with a lot of space to bask. In the hall, stretch on a leather sofa in front of the fire or head to the hotel terrace for a drink by the lake. You are never far from the water of this national park lodge either. The indoor pool promises fun rain or a good weather, and there are boats of boats and paddle on the lake.

Lodge in Bryce Canyon

Not only is the Bryce Canyon lodge a beloved historic pavilion, but it is also the only accommodation option in the Bryce Canyon National Park. Crilling a mesa near the edge of the canyon, the lodge offers both an ideal location to explore the National Park and a high boundary retirement. Molded woods, treasury roofs and extended stones recall the beginnings of the beginning of the 20th century of the building. Lodge rooms and cabins complete the accommodation options in this rustic complex.

McDonald Lake Lodge

Glaciers National Park, Montana

Enter the Lake McDonald Lodge hall in the Glacier National Park and you will immediately understand what a lodge of the National Park should look like. A massive chimney, a logging of log, open balconies and craft and craft ornaments mix to create a rustic elegance that looks like a hug after a long day of exploration in nature. Built in 1913 on the shore of Lake McDonald, this hotel in the Glaciers National Park retains a simple and rustic elegance. There are also cabin halls and two annexes: COBB House offers elegant suites and Snyder Hall has an inn style provision.

Other incredible lodges near national parks

Not all national parks have a historic lodge within its limits. Here are two emblematic lodges built just outside their famous national parks.

Large Lake Lodge

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Do you think you are going to stay in the Rocky Mountain National Park? Be careful again: the park is one of the few national parks without housing in parking lots. Fortunately, there are many major options in neighboring communities of Grand Lake and Estes Park. Among the most inspired options in the Lodge by National Park is the Grand Lake Lodge. In this centenary hotel, you will find a comfortable building with a restaurant with a restaurant, plus 70 cabins spread over the property.

Millions of visitors each year come for some of the wildest and the most beautiful in the country in the Acadia National Park, making it one of the most popular family vacation places in the whole country. And while Acadia has no lodges in the park, there is a lot of historic accommodation in neighboring communities, including right next to the park in the charming seaside village of Bar Harbor. One of the most beloved places to stay near Acadia, the Harbor Inn bar offers many assets of a classic national park lodge. Exceptional views, a historical charm and a large presence are standard with stays on this property which was originally built in 1887.
