Planning a cruise vacation in 2026? Here are the new cruise experiences everyone will be talking about

As cruises continue to grow in popularity, cruise lines are constantly competing to attract potential passengers on board. While new ships are the shiny objects that attract the most attention (and headlines), major lines are constantly innovating with new family adventures, high-end cultural voyages, ship deployments and port calls as well. If you’re considering a cruise vacation in 2026, here are the new experiences and itineraries that everyone will be talking about in the year ahead.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival is celebrating America’s 250th birthday with special sailings on 10 cruise ships from Florida, New York and California. On July 4 itself, ships will converge at sea (seven off the east coast and three off the west coast) for patriotic celebrations.

Additionally, Carnival Luminosa will offer 10-day Alaska cruises from San Francisco for the first time (April to September), while Carnival Jubilee, Dream and Breeze will all depart from Galveston on new four-, six- and eight-day itineraries to Mexico, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

For those hoping to witness the total solar eclipse on August 12, Carnival Legend offers an 11-day Carnival Journeys Eclipse cruise departing from Dover, England, with stops in France, Spain and Portugal. On the day of the eclipse, August 12, the ship will be at sea, allowing optimal placement for astronomical observation.

Finally, Carnival’s private Bahamas island, Half Moon Cay, will be renamed Relaxaway, Half Moon Cay, as it opens new berths on the north and south ends of a mile-long beach.

Cunard Cruise Line

In July, Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 will join the largest flotilla of tall ships ever in New York for the Sail4th 250 celebration of America’s independence. Other QM2 event cruises include the London Theater at Sea (May), Abbey Road at Sea (October) and a Literature Festival at Sea (November).

A new partnership with Harper’s Bazaar begins on Queen Anne in July. The iconic fashion monthly will host expert talks, programs and fitness classes as Queen Anne sails through the Norwegian fjords. The Queen Elizabeth spends her last season in Alaska from May to September before repositioning in the Caribbean.

Finally, three Cunard queens will position themselves in the path of totality for the August 12 solar eclipse. The Queen Mary 2 will spend the night in Reykjavik, Iceland, allowing guests to enjoy views from the Scandinavian capital. Passengers on the Queen Anne can look out over the sea off the Iberian Peninsula from the deck. And when Queen Victoria docks in Tarragona, Spain, on August 12, guests can sit on the steps of the Tarraco Roman Amphitheater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to marvel at this celestial wonder.

Disney Cruise Line

Following her maiden voyage in late 2025, the Disney Destiny will embark on her first full season of cruises to the Caribbean and Bahamas from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The Disney Magic is offering its first season of Alaska cruises from Vancouver alongside its sister ship the Disney Wonder, doubling Disney Cruise Line’s Alaska sailing capacity. Next, both ships head to San Diego for their home port while sailing to Baja California and the Mexican Riviera.

When the Disney Dream takes its summer vacation in Europe, it will make the inaugural call to the port of Cagliari, on the island of Sardinia, Italy. This historic Mediterranean city is known for its cathedrals, architecture and Roman amphitheater. Finally, Disney Adventure becomes the eighth ship in the Disney fleet, offering a range of three- and four-night cruises departing from Marina Bay Cruise Center in Singapore from early March until 2026.

Holland America Line

Holland America is launching “Legendary Voyages” in 2026 with longer itineraries including solar eclipse cruises, expeditions to the Arctic Circle and an extended European season to glimpse the Northern Lights.

In June, the Noordam sails from Seattle through Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest and above the Arctic Circle for polar exploration. Two ships, the Zuiderdam and the Nieuw Statendam, offer legendary solar eclipse voyages, both spending August 12 at sea in Scandinavian waters to enjoy the best view of the total eclipse. Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam spend six more weeks in Europe sailing to Norway chasing the Northern Lights in November.

Finally, Holland America is offering a seven-day commemorative campaign titled “America’s 250th Celebration: Stars and Stripes Sailing” departing from Boston late on July 4 to position the ship in Boston Harbor for the city’s fireworks display. This Stars and Stripes cruise on the Zuiderdam calls at ports that have played a role in U.S. history, such as Norfolk, Virginia, where passengers can visit Yorktown, site of the final battle of the American Revolution, and stay overnight in New York to visit its Revolutionary War sites.

MSC Cruises

This is the first year MSC has offered Alaska cruises. MSC Poesia is heading to the land of the midnight sun in May 2026 with week-long roundtrip cruises from Seattle. The inaugural seven-night itineraries include Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Tracy Arm Fjord, Juneau and Victoria, British Columbia. To prepare for the Alaska season, MSC Poesia has undergone enhancements including the addition of MSC Yacht Club, Butcher’s Cut and Kaito Sushi Bar specialty restaurants, All-Stars Sports Bar, a renovated spa and an upgraded gym.

MSC Cruises will further expand its fleet when MSC World Asia debuts in the Mediterranean in November 2026. MSC World Asia will be the third “world class” ship joining MSC World America and MSC World Europa.

Norwegian cruise line

The Bahamas’ private island, Great Stirrup Cay, gets its shine with the opening of the Great Life Lagoon. The 1.4-acre lagoon will feature a heated swimming pool, Splash Harbor for young children, Vibe Shore Club for adults and a new pier allowing guests to walk directly onto the island. Later this summer, Great Stirrup Cay will open the Great Tides Waterpark with 19 slides, an 800-foot river, a 9,000-square-foot children’s play area and Cliffside Cove. The Cliffside Cove attraction will allow visitors, for the first time, to jump into the water from the top of cliffs 10 or 15 feet high. The island will also feature jet karts, a water racing course where guests ride mini boats similar to a kart/jet ski combo.

In addition to private island enhancements, Norwegian Jewel is departing Philadelphia for the first time with cruises to Bermuda. From April to August, Norwegian Jewel offers weeklong cruises from Philadelphia with overnight stays in Bermuda. In September, Norwegian Jewel heads to Canada while Norwegian Pearl heads from Philadelphia to Bermuda. Finally, Norwegian Luna becomes the 21st ship in the fleet when it debuts in March 2026.

Princess Cruise Line

Following its U.S. debut in late 2025, Princess Cruise Line’s Star Princess is operating a full year of cruises to the Bahamas and Caribbean from Ft. Lauderdale as well as a summer sailing season to Alaska from Seattle. Two-year-old Sun Princess offers “enhanced voyages” on its seven-day Western Mediterranean itineraries. These upgraded cruises offer new ports such as Majorca (Palma), Spain and Corsica (Ajaccio), France, and an extended overnight stay in La Spezia, Italy (for Florence/Pisa), allowing for a two-day visit to the Tuscany region.

Princess Cruises also offers three total solar eclipse cruise itineraries timed to view the astronomical phenomenon on August 12, 2026. The three solar eclipse cruises include the 14-day Enchanted Princess Mediterranean and Adriatic departing from Rome on August 4, Sky Princess (August 8 from Southampton) and Sun Princess (seven-, 14- and 21-day itineraries from Barcelona and Athens).

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line

Royal Caribbean’s Royal Beach Club Paradise Island welcomed its first guests in late December. Now, Royal Caribbean passengers visiting Nassau can enjoy a day trip to the beach at an exclusive club featuring two beaches, three pools, three grills and 10 waterfront bars. Royal Caribbean is expanding its beach club offerings by opening Royal Beach Club Cozumel and Royal Beach Club Santorini later this year.

Voyager of the Seas sails for the first time to Alaska (round trip from Seattle) joining her sister ships Ovation, Anthem and Serenade of the Seas. Finally, Legend of the Seas joins the fleet as the third “Icon Class” ship to sail the Mediterranean in the summer of 2026 before heading to Ft. Lauderdale in November.
