Disney Cruise Line’s New Cruise Ship Offers Some of the Most Immersive Entertainment at Sea

Disney Cruise Line’s new ship, Disney Destiny, may be known for its heroes and villains theme, but where it really shines is in entertainment. Duty Disney Hercules from the Walt Disney Theater to experiencing close-up magic with Dr. Facilier, there’s something around every corner of the ship.

After spending three days on board and experiencing all the new spaces, dining options, and entertainment offerings, I can confidently say that Disney Destiny offers some of the most immersive and creative entertainment at sea. In fact, there was so much to do on board that I couldn’t do it all, even though I woke up at 6:30 a.m. and went to bed well after midnight.

If you’re planning to sail the Disney Destiny, which will make its official maiden voyage on November 20, 2025, followed by an inaugural season of four- and five-night sailings from Port Everglades, Florida, you’ll want to continue reading our breakdown of the entertainment spread across the ship.

Entertainment inside the Walt Disney Theater

If you ask any Disney Cruise Line fan, you’ll quickly learn that the Walt Disney Theater is the crown jewel of entertainment spaces on any Disney cruise ship. It’s no different on Disney Destiny, where you’ll see three different shows inside the theater. The first two, Disney Seas Adventure And Frozen, a musical showare also found on other Disney ships.

However, the only new and exclusive show at Disney Destiny is Disney Hercules. The Broadway-style show is a modern retelling of the classic zero-to-hero tale, featuring over-the-top musical numbers, a stellar cast, larger-than-life puppets and much more. My favorite part of the show was the number “Zero to Hero”, in which Hercules becomes a sort of rock star character, with the incredible vocals of the band Muses. And without giving too much away, the imposing battle of the Titans is also visually impressive. By the end of the show, I was standing and dancing my way out of the theater.

Meet Disney Villains in a New Way

Since Disney Destiny is themed around heroes and villains, it’s no surprise that you’ll be able to meet some of your favorite Disney villains in new ways on board. Most major villain-related events take place in the Marvel-themed Great Hall. Black Panther. There’s even a statue of King T’Challa near the grand staircase. Just know that none of these encounters are truly scary and are ideal for those traveling with children.

Loki

The first evening, don’t miss The legend of Lokiwhere the storytellers on board, Zayah and Gamble (who are always roaming the ship looking for their next big adventure), share the tale of the gods of Asgard. Of course, Loki shows up and gives his own side of the story, all the while plotting to take over the ship as king. Throughout the navigation, there are other opportunities to see and interact with Loki. And it all culminates in Celebration of a kingwhich is supposed to be a tribute to King T’Challa, but Loki spoils the party.

Evil

My favorite Disney villain is Maleficent, and I can see her in Under his spell: an evil encounter it was a real treat. This close encounter with characters takes place in Saga. During the show, Maleficent will call on guests to help her do what she wants, but everyone will have the opportunity to meet her after the show is over.

Cruel

There are also two chances to see Cruella De Vil. The first is Wretched Runway: A Cruella Fashion Showwhich takes place in the Great Hall. This impromptu fashion show features real guests who want to strut their stuff on the catwalk, preferably dressed in a fun outfit.

And just past the Great Hall you will find De Vil’s Piano Salon. Here, martinis are served with spots. From time to time, Cruella will pop into the living room for some musical musings. Just be aware that De Vil’s is very small and gets busy quickly. If you want to make the most of your time inside, try to arrive as soon as the bar opens (times are always listed on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app).

Dr Facilier

Even though my favorite villain is Maleficent, the best character encounter I had was walking into Dr. Facilier’s living room. This small room just outside of Saga is where you’ll find the Shadow Man himself from the animated hit, The Princess and the Frog. I don’t want to give too much away, but I promise you’ll want to wait to be welcomed into the charming charmer’s corner.

Just know that if you or your kids aren’t into these interactive encounters, there are plenty of opportunities to meet your favorite characters around the ship by taking a more traditional photo and moving on your way.

Other entertainment around the ship

Throughout Disney Destiny you’ll find a variety of entertainment, including quizzes, game shows, deck parties and much more. The big kick-off to the cruise is the party on deck near the family pools and Funnel Vision. It’s a great opportunity to see Disney characters, dance in the sun, and spend time with family before everyone goes their separate ways on the cruise.

And of course, you won’t want to skip Pirate Night. The entire ship gets a makeover and the night ends with fireworks at sea. During Pirate Night, you will also have the chance to meet Mickey Mouse and his gang in their pirate outfits, as well as a few other famous pirates like Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Hook.

As the sun sets, keep an eye on the Disney Cruise Line app for With Great Power: A Marvel Comic Show. This adults-only show brings together wacky antics, curious props and lots of on-stage fun inside Saga. Plus, a short pre-show with a powerful singer is a must. This show, like its Indiana Jones-the Disney Treasure themed sister, is very popular and is only featured once per navigation. I arrived 45 minutes early and Saga was sold out shortly after. There’s also an exclusive cocktail menu served in Saga for the show if you’re into that sort of thing (hint, I certainly am).
